What airlines use it for
- Passenger experiences: flight status in the airline’s app and website, “where is my plane” features, arrival information for people picking passengers up.
- Internal tools: operations displays, ground-handling and station tools, crew and CRM systems that need to know where each aircraft is.
- Analytics: feeding live and historical flight data into the airline’s own reporting.
Built for an airline’s own fleet
General flight data feeds cover worldwide air traffic and are designed for broad consumer and analytics use. An API built for an airline is scoped to that airline’s fleet, filtered by airline code, registration or flight number, so applications receive the flights they care about without processing the rest of the sky.
What each flight includes
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
flightIata | IATA flight number |
airline | IATA airline code |
latitude, longitude | Position in decimal degrees |
altitude | Altitude in feet |
heading | Heading in degrees (0–360) |
groundSpeed | Ground speed in knots |
verticalSpeed | Vertical speed in feet per minute |
aircraftType | ICAO aircraft type code |
registration | Aircraft registration |
origin, destination | Departure and arrival airport IATA codes |
status | scheduled, en-route, landed or unknown |
phase | scheduled, taxiing, departed, climb, cruise, descent or landed |
lastUpdate | Time of the last position update (ISO 8601) |
dataState | live, stale (position briefly not updated) or signal-lost (no recent position) |
dataAge | Seconds since the last position update |
Freshness you can see
Live data is only useful if applications know how current it is. Every flight carries a freshness state and the age of its last position, so a passenger app can show “updated 3 seconds ago” or mark a flight whose signal has been lost instead of showing an old position as live. See how flight tracking works for why positions can go stale.
Reliability
The API runs on redundant infrastructure with automatic failover and a 99.97% uptime SLA, and uses standard JSON over HTTPS with API-key authentication, so it works with any language or platform.
Part of the Wireum platform
The Data API delivers the same flight data that powers Wireum Map and the live views in Wireum Insights. Turkish Airlines, AJet and Turkish Technology use it to power their own applications and internal tools.
